Above the Lea Valley

Introduction
From quiet woods to expansive views over the Lea valley, this walk includes Gustard Wood at the northern tip of Wheathampstead and the Grade I splendour of Mackerye End.

To begin: Turn right out of the car park and past The Bull. Cross the road at the zebra crossing and turn right then first left into King Edward Place. Walk past the crinkle-crankle wall and straight ahead along a bridleway with a children’s play area through trees on the left. Continue on the footpath past Bury Farm Cottages and, as the road bends left, go straight ahead on a bridleway leading to a footbridge across the river.
