To commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Second World War in Europe, the History Society staged an exhibition in Wheathampstead Memorial Hall over the weekend 10 and 11 May 2025. The exhibition was researched and created in the previous 18 months by a team of WHS volunteers and included displays with titles such as “Make do & mend”, Food & farming” and “Businesses and services”, together with a wide range of war-related memorabilia including diaries, photographs, official documents, uniforms, badges, gas masks etc. A selection of people's memories of the war years were on display (click here) together with biographies of some of the men and women who served (click here).

The centrepiece of the exhibition was a row of 24 posters (click here) highlighting information about life in Wheathampstead during the war. The exhibition attracted more than 800 visitors. All the posters were displayed again on Village Day (12 July) and some in a mini exhibition on 16 and 17 August, to mark the end of the war in the Far East (click here).
